Senses.. (4)

She sat fidgeting with her spoon in her cold, untouched soup, lost in her thoughts as her friend watched her silently.
"That's it, I can't take it anymore, you're telling me what's going on or so help me God I am marching into his brand new huge office and strangling him until he tells me what the hell he did to you!"
"Manal!"
"Wallah! I've been watching you for the past half an hour, other than the fact that curiosity is killing me, I'm worried. I've never seen you like this."
"I know, I know. I'm sorry, it's just that seeing him has brought back so many memories, and I just wasn't prepared I guess."
"Ok, so will you tell me who he is, or who he was?"
"Well, simple story, boy meets girl, boy woos girl, girl falls madly in love, boy gets panic attack, runs away and girl ends up heartbroken. Everything else is just details, but that's the gist of it."
"He doesn’t seem like the running away guy."
"Well he didn't physically run away."
"What did he do then?"
"He slept with one of the girls I knew." She mumbled quietly,
"What?"
"Oh yes.."
"Maybe she was lying? Maybe she liked him and wanted you two to break up?"
"Well I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case, she made sure there was no place for maybes. I saw them Manal."
"What do you mean you saw them? You walked in on them?"
"Well not literally, but she made sure I walked into the room when he was showering happily in the bathroom and she was lying semi naked in bed. I saw enough to put 2 and 2 together."
"But sometimes putting 2 and 2 together on your own equals 5 Nouf"
"Yeah well I stuck around long enough to figure out that in our case it did actually equal 4."
"How so?"
"Well he mentioned we studied in the same university. He was a PhD student and I was in my first year when we met. When that happened I was half way through my second year, and I thought that, having been together for a year and a half he would eventually propose, I mean we were inseparable. At the same time someone back home proposed, my mother called happy, and I had to say no, I mean I thought Fahad and I had something, we were going to end up together, live happily ever after. I naively told her, and then told him."
"O ba3dain?"
"Wala shay. He started pulling back, avoiding my calls, spending more time 'studying'. That night I had a fight with my mother, because of him ironically, I called him he said he was studying, so I picked up some take out and went to his place, I had a key and walked in to find her sprawled in bed, in her underwear, covered in the sheets I had bought him."
"Oh my God! What did she say?"
"Nothing, she said Fahad was taking a shower because she had just 'worked him out' and that it was good that I finally found out so I could let him go and he could finally be with the person he wanted to be with" she said, shrugging her shoulders.
"I can't believe that, he can't be that horrible! He can't be with someone so vulgar! She must be lying!"
"No, I left of course. She must've told him because he called me almost immediately. He kept trying to talk to me but I just couldn't. A week later I finally had enough energy to go to class and as soon as I walk in to the university, there they were, her sprawled on his lap for everyone to see that he had finally gotten rid of me to be with the person he really wanted to be with." She finished sarcastically.
"7abeebty" whispered Manal, "that must've been so hard."
"It was. Needless to say I couldn't continue to see that, so I finished my second year and transferred to another school. I didn't see much of him after that, and I heard they broke up a few months later when she found someone richer to leech onto. But for me that was it; I could never see him the same way again."
"I'm so sorry 7abeebty. What are you going to do now?"
"Nothing I guess. It was all a long time ago, I'm over him" she lied.
"Are you sure you'll be ok?"
"Of course" Nouf continued, forcing a smile on her face, "let's go back to work."
